The Audrey Mac project has invited 17 artists to engage with some items found within the pages of a second-hand book.

•  An address typed onto a brown piece of paper.
•  A hand-written list of clothing and travel items.
•  A Russian luggage label dating to somewhere between the 1950’s to the 1970’s.

The book itself was published in the 1970’s, the Author is Yashar Kemal, and the title is “They Burn The Thistles”. The cover of the book has a spaghetti western feel to it. It is an epic story of a bitter struggle between the poor Turkish peasants of the Taurus Mountains of Anatolia and the greedy Agahs who covet their land.
The name of the project is taken from the name on the typed address label. Audrey MacDonald; who lived at the address in Edinburgh where she celebrated her 100th birthday in 2013.

The “Hotel Rossia” was in Moscow. It was once the largest hotel in the world. It has since been demolished.

The list features intriguing descriptions of clothing such as a “Bangkok orange Kaftan” and “1 wig”.
